All Dark Souls games, including the Elden Ring, are called Challenge Games. But not in the sense that it is difficult to solve a crossword puzzle in the Times or to pass a college exam. The difficulty with this type of game is that you need to know what the mob boss is doing, and then be able to press your controller buttons in time, following certain signals of impending attacks. Thus, there is at least one part that requires "learning", but even the perfect training will not help you much if you can not properly adjust the time to press the buttons.
I never knew how to calculate the exact time to press the buttons. And as I approach retirement, my response time is much slower than that of teen / young gaming users like the Elden Ring. I'm just going to fail a lot more often than most other players,: I'll probably get stuck at some point, I already believe in the first mafia boss.
I believe that the "challenge" can be fun in general. The idea that the task is fun was quite common among game developers, while games like this alone did not show that some people even like games that do not have a task. But at least a large portion of the gaming population prefers to play their games with some challenge. However, different players have different difficulties with different horses. And the "fun" part of challenging games is accepting that something is difficult for you, and then finally overcoming the challenge, feeling better about doing it. If the task of the game is very difficult, և you either do not succeed or you need a lot of time to make even the slightest progress, then there is a possibility that you will not find any fun in the game.
Because some people like games with little or no difficulty, and some people like them when challenged by their personal performance level, but this performance is not only too high, a lot of video games, even some gaming companies have different difficulty levels. . Including the "easy" complexity or even the "story" created by almost everyone to play. FromSoftware, the creators of the Elden Ring և Souls series, do not seem to believe that the game should have variable difficulty. Consequently, some buyers, like me, simply will not buy their toys. It's a bit like a "should be high enough to drive" sign in an amusement park, only with a response time scale, not a growth rate. I'm just not fast enough to play.
